Net metabolic rate E_ met varied with terrain type for groupwise (repeated measures ANOVA, P = 7.1e-11) and for most pair-wise comparisons (post hoc paired t-tests, P < 0.05), with the greatest difference (27%) found between Woodchips and Sidewalk. The only non-significant comparisons were Dirt vs. Sidewalk, Gravel vs. Dirt, and Grass vs. Gravel (P < 0.05).
